The National Secondary School Computer Fund (NSSCF) is a key component of the Commonwealth Government’s $2.4 billion Digital Education Revolution Initiative.

The program will run until 2013 and will be delivered through the Department to Victorian government schools with students in Years 9-12. The principle objective of the NSSCF was to achieve a computer-to-student ratio of 1:1 for Year 9-12 students by 31 December 2011.

Under Rounds 1, 2 and 2.1 of the NSSCF, Victorian government secondary schools have been directly provided with $52.7 million for the purchase, deployment and support of more than 44,000 desktop, notebook and netbook computer devices in order to achieve an interim computer-to-student ratio of 1:2 for students in Years 9 to 12.

The Department gave more funding to help schools to move from a 1:2 computer-to-student ratio to 1:1 over 2010 and 2011.

Funding has also been provided by the Commonwealth Government to contribute to the costs associated with effectively deploying and supporting each additional computer under the NSSCF, including funding for technical support, software, security, electricity, data centre and networking costs.
